Satuday Flea Markets and a Little Pink

I am posting this as part of Pink Saturday.  And while the pink in this post is scattered about, there certainly are a lot of Saturdays!  To see who else is posting for Pink Saturday, go here.  And as always, many thanks to Bev for her support of this lovely group!

I have always loved attending flea markets.  And until 3 summers ago, I was there to buy.  But starting in 2011, I set up with my friend Amy and tried selling at flea markets.  To be honest, selling is not as much fun as buying.  It requires tables and tents and boxes of stuff and getting up at 5 am and worrying about the weather.  There is also the packing and unpacking and listening to what people think of you and your stuff.  Sometimes buyers are lovely and then sometimes. . . 

But always the other dealers are wonderful!  They are a community I am glad to be a part of!

This summer we got to be next to friends at one of the fleas and that was a lot of fun!

I have a decided weakness for buttons and love showing them off in these wonderful dishes.

Moving them around and in and out of my car does tends to spill them all sorts of places!

It really is fun to look at these photos and notice how much of this stuff has sold this year!
Last Saturday we did our last flea market set up.
And as always we end with a hug and the words, "Another excellent flea market adventure!"

Pink Saturday in My Garden

Honestly, my garden is mostly shades of lavender, yellow and green . . .
but I found a few pink blossoms to share.

 This beautiful rose starts off pink, then fades to cream with just a hint of pink at the end of its petals.

Rescued by my son from the compost pile at the garden center where he worked,

it reminds me that given enough love, water and sunshine we all can bloom!

 These lavender buds will turn pink in a few weeks.

The low growing variety has just started to push blooms.

No garden of mine or my son's would be complete without succulents.

The Hen and Chicks were moved at the end of last summer

and have been happily growing and throwing off lots of "chicks."

I didn't know they bloomed, and pink no less.  Cool!

Favorite Holiday Album

Pink Saturday December 18, 2010

This is my favorite Christmas album.

It's mostly standards, with a touch of Latin beat!

I've been listening to it a lot this season.  It's on regular rotation in my shop along with 40 Years, A Charlie Brown Christmas.

 

This song reminds me of the wonder I felt the first Christmases after my children were born.  

  I have been struck by how much the bass player on this track reminds me of my husband playing.  B has a distinct sound.  So, for this blog I went to the liner notes to see who it was.  I had to laugh when I saw the credits!  It happens to be a programed, synthesized bass part.  That might be insulting, that my DH sounds like a synthesized bass part.  Except the arranger & programmer on this track turns out to be an old friend of ours! We actually all lived together briefly in a drafty Boston apartment.   The guys went to music school together.  They played in bands together and very much appreciated each other's musicality.

It's possible I knew of the connection, but I had completely forgotten until just now when I looked.

What fun!

My Favorite Pinks and a Giveaway

Today's Pink Saturday request is to share a favorite holiday movie.  When you drop on over to How Sweet the Sound you'll see lots of wonderful holiday films.  My Christmas movie favs are at the bottom of this post.

My family has two favorite Christmas films:  White Christmas and Holiday Inn.  We've watched them every year since the kids were little! Holiday Inn is actually the first movie to showcase the song "White Christmas."  It stars Bing Crosby & Fred Astaire and has an Irving Berlin song for every holiday.  "White Christmas" was so successful as a song, they decided to build a whole movie around it.  If you watch both films, you'll notice they used the same set! (taking off my reference librarian hat now)  My family likes Holiday Inn best, but I'm both a Rosemary Clooney fan & a romantic sap, so White Christmas always gets my vote!

 I also love a little movie (made for televison in 1997) called The Christmas List.  It stars Mimi Rogers and tells the tale of a department store perfume counter saleswoman who makes a list, drops it in Santa's bucket and then finds her wishes coming true in unexpected ways.  I'm sad it's not on ABC Family this year.

Pink Saturday

This is my favorite pink in the shop.

As you can see, it is a bit the worse for wear.

I have photographed it many times for this blog.

In this picture you can't see the crack.

The plate is beautiful in shape and surface design.

I love the deep rose colour.

But what I love the very most is the Yankee thrift.

This plate was repaired, probably in the 1800's.
They used staples!

As you can see, the repairs are not elegant.
They did not use materials like we have today -- super-glue or porcelain repair kits.

 The repairs are not hidden, but this beautiful plate didn't get thrown away.  It might have sat on a shelf, maybe the crack was even hidden.

 

And because some Yankee housewife asked her husband to repair her favorite plate, I now have it to make me smile whenever I see it!

Pink Saturday Tea

I was invited to Tea last Thursday.

It's not a group of women I have much in common with, but, as in high school when I would accept a date if it was to the movies, if I am invited to tea, I will say YES!

My destination was less than a mile from my home down a quiet country lane.

Wearing a cheerful spring outfit, I grabbed my camera, laced up my reeboks, and swinging my strappy sandals, I set off.

The walk takes only 10 minutes.
I left 30 minutes early to take advantage
of the beautiful sunny weather.
Along the way I discovered all sorts of pink!

I took a detour to the beach where these wild roses, with their wonderful rosehips grow.

I love how the water looks with sunlight glinting off it.
I'm afraid the only pink in this picture is the color these vacationers' skin will be at the end of the day!

The hostess made "Pooh Cake," as in Winnie-the-Pooh.
As you can see by the cake stand, that was her theme, and one I love!

It was a lovely afternoon and I'm oh so glad I went.
On the walk home I captured this promise of pink.

In a month of so this split rail fence will be covered in a profusion of glorious pink roses!
